what price do you put on a brand? food for thought.

The average sized house as about 1,200 square feet, the perimeter of the house might be approximately 146 linear feet (25′ x 48′). Multiply that by a height of 8 feet to get a total square wall footage of 1,168. At 7 bricksper sf, you'll need about 8,176 bricks

round that to 9000 bricks to build a house

regular bricks costs : 27p

It would cost £2430 to build a house made from 'regular' bricks.

Designer Supreme bricks cost £30

It would cost £270.000 to build a house made from designer bricks.

supreme like to use their limited edition product scheme to their advantage. making things harder to own only raises the popularity and want for an item. Even bricks apparently...

Logincharlie Twitch Layout

I got to help out a friend with a 24 hour charity live stream for twitch. He gave me full range over his personal branding and layout with the only request of making the colour scheme purple.

this branding and design included profile headers, icons and 'afk' screensaver for his stream. I also created a simple looping gif animation that played within his stream.

It was a fun experience to be able to work to the websites specifications and know the work i was doing was for a charity event.

Twitch Branding

I got a commission to continue a clients branding for a streaming network called 'Twitch'. The only thing I was given to work with was the clients pre-existing logo and colour scheme. He also discussed the idea of his theme not being too serious and 'messy'.

The aspects of his page he wished for me to work on were his information headers that go underneath his stream window, and the overlay for the stream itself.

For the headers, I got the appropriate specifications given on the twitch website information section and created individual minimal vector art that accurately depicts the category it is in.

The stream overlay was a lot more specific. Each streamer has a personal way which they like to layout their streams. The client gave me a rough sketched guide on the foundations of his layout, specifying it to be plain for him to add information on top of. The purpose of this overlay is to simply frame the content of the stream and for information to be displayed while showing the personality and brand of the streamer.

This content is now available to view on his twitch page for any of his viewers to look at. It also give his stream a more consistent visual brand.

Minimalism - Netflix Documentary

This documentary questioned modern consumer culture and the standards of modern society. It discusses about how people are becoming over-cumbered with things to compensate for happiness.

In our modern society its common to own something newer or a little before its needed (if needed at all). Most things are no longer repaired but simply replaced with a fresher model leading to a throw away society and mindset. We value our self worth on what we buy or what we own more and more. People can be shunned for being outdated, cheap or not up to date with the latest trend or technology. The need for more items to appeal to this mindset is the reason the fashion trends change seasonally and there is often a new model of product every year. The large amount of consumption often leave people drowning in their own material goods.

An example shown in the documentary was of a business man who was conflicted when working his way up a corporate ladder. Upon reaching his promotion he realised that getting a raise wasn't as amazing as society makes it out the be. The difference of his promotional raise and his increased tax levelled out. Unsatisfied by his work vs his financial payoff  he talked about how success is often shown through what you posses and not how you feel.

This documentary made me question what I own for satisfaction and what I own for the sake of owning it. In my spare time I chose to go through some of my belongings I had no emotional attachment to and clear them. This was a good self reflecting experience and encouraged me to be cautious of what I want to buy for the sake of buying.

Train Graphics

As a fan of the Japanese rail system I thought it would be fun to start a project on making small simple graphic to represent each train line. The first one I decided to do was the Yamanote Line. This one resides closest to me as it's the one I use most on my trips in Japan. Featuring a green line and corresponding green trains.

I made a simple graphic of the train front and a matching animation that loops. I plan to continue this style across the multiple tracks to make a coherent series.

Hand Drawn Animation Tribute

Inspired by 1920's animation like Steamboat Willie, Bendy and the Ink Machine features a Felix the cat inspired hand drawn character that it out to attack the main protagonist in this indie horror game. https://www.bendyandtheinkmachine.com/

As a tribute to this series clever visual design I wished to make a hand drawn homage to the mascot of the series. Using traditional animation techniques I made a small looping animation of the character dancing.

Before adding characteristics to my animation I focused on making the animation fluid first.
